Volunteers honored

Kentucky Library and Museum volunteersThe Kentucky Library and Museum held its first annual Volunteer Dinner on Thursday, May 31st, 2007. The work of these volunteers with preservation, exhibit preparation, special events, and educational programming has enriched the community and enable the KYLM to offer a variety of programs and events to the community that would not be possible otherwise.

Celebration of Area Art

Learn to spin your wheels

Have you ever wondered how yarn is made or thought you might want to try? Have you ever wondered where angora or mohair comes from or what silk feels like before it becomes thread or fabric? Stitching to the Nines

Learning to make a ninepatch blockOn Saturday, January 27, thirteen individuals learned how to adapt and change the basic nine patch block into several variations. This activity was the closing event in a series of programs offered with the Nature’s Bounty: Quilts and More exhibit.

Side by Side: VSA arts 2007 opens at Kentucky Library and Museum

attendees at VSA arts receptionOver 120 artists, students, and admirers turned out Sunday, January 21st for the opening reception of Side by Side: VSA arts 2007. The result of a partnership between Kentucky Library & Museum and VSA arts of Kentucky, Side by Side includes eighty-five pieces of art by professional artists, students’ work from VSA arts classes, and collaborative pieces between the professional artists and students.

Kentucky Museum open during the holiday break

Still looking for that one perfect gift for your cousin? Haven’t had an opportunity to see the “Nature’s Bounty: Quilts and More” exhibit? Need a place to entertain the in-laws? Visit the Kentucky Museum during the holiday break. The Kentucky Museum and Museum Store are open from 9-4 Monday through Saturday and 1-4 on Sunday except for December 24, 25, and January 1 when they will be closed.

The research library and other areas of the Kentucky Building will be closed from December 16 to January 1.
