WKULibraries Announces the Opening of VPAL
Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends of Libraries & Museum can enjoy access to the Lila Greene Listening Library, private booths for listening and viewing materials, a group study area and access to TOPCAT while visiting VPAL.
“It’s very rewarding to the fine arts faculty and students to have an area like this here on campus. The beauty of it is having all the information in one place. In this world of technology, this kind of accessibility is appreciated,†said Mitzi Groom, Department Head, Music Department.
“We are excited about having a centralized location that meets the needs of so many WKU students, faculty, staff and the community. This area offers increased accessibility to these materials and ease of use by having private listening and viewing booths, as well as a group study area,†said Mike Binder, Dean of University Libraries.
Hours of operation are:
Monday-Friday: 7:45am – midnight
Saturday: 9am – midnight
Sunday: 1pm – midnight

On Saturday, August 18 area collectors participated in Antique Appraisal Day. The theme of this year’s event was “Kitchen Kitsch†with “Treasures in your Attic†personality Joe Rosson returning as the featured appraiser.

This year’s theme is “Kitchen Kitsch.” Bring your salt ‘n pepper shakers, cookie jars, depression glass and more to be appraised!
The time is Saturday, August 18 from 10am-2pm (early bird arrival – 9am).
Suggested Donation: Early Birds: $10; For those arriving at 10am or after: $5.

Special hours on August 22 & 24
The Kentucky Library & Museum will close for staff training from 8 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, August 22. It will also close for staff training from 8 am to 4 pm on Friday, August 24. Normal building hours resume on August 25.

“Recommended by Duncan Hines” opening rocks!
Opening festivities for the “Recommended by Duncan Hines†exhibit at the Kentucky Library & Museum launched the 2007 Duncan Hines Festival. Activities held on Friday and Saturday, August 3rd & 4th included a ribbon cutting ceremony, recipe judging contest, 1950s sock hop, art show, country breakfast, chautauqua-style appearance by Duncan Hines, and costume contest.

WKU’s first electronic journal coming soon! International Journal of Exercise Science edited by James Navalta and Scott Lyons, the first e-journal in TopSCHOLAR™ (digitalcommons.wku.edu). The purpose of this journal is to provide students of exercise science with the initial opportunity to become engaged in the scholarly process as authors and reviewers.

This site provides you with information on “Where to Go,” “Travel Guides,”and “Travel Bookstores and Maps.” Available also is information on airlines, trains, buses, cars, lodging, and restaurants. Cultural events, adventure travel, and outdoor recreation are covered as well.

The “Recommended by Duncan Hines” exhibit opens at the Kentucky Library & Museum on August 3rd and 4th with activities held in conjunction with the Duncan Hines Festival. They include:

• Festival Art Awards and Silent Auction, August 3, 5pm
• 1950s Theme Party, with antique cars, 50s rock ‘n roll and cocktails, August 3, 7pm
• Country Breakfast with presentation by Jonathan Jeffrey, August 4, 9am
• Duncan Hines Festival Children’s Pageant, August 4, 10am
• “Adventures in Good Eating: A Taste of Duncan Hines,†a presentation of the Kentucky Historical Society, written and performed by Mike Thomas, August 4, 3pm
