The 2007 Graduating Senior Art Exhibit

PosterThe 2007 Graduating Senior Art Exhibit will convene at Kentucky Library & Museum from April 19 through May 11.

Works from more than 30 graduating art students will be on display, including: paintings, watercolors, works on paper, fiber arts, ceramics and sculptures.

Some items will be for sale. For more information on purchasing items in exhibit, please contact the Art Department at (270) 745-6568.

Libraries Faculty Selected for 2007 Faculty Awards

2007 Faculty Awards Winners“The University annually recognizes outstanding contributions by faculty members in the areas of Teaching, Research/Creativity, Public Service, and Student Advisement.” Roxanne Spencer and Bryan Carson from the WKU Libraries’ Public Services have been selected by each of the colleges for the Research/Creativity and Public Service Awards this year. They are also the finalists for the university-wide awards, which will be announced at Commencement. A reception was given in honor of the award recipients campus wide in the Student Success Center.

With this new online system, you need to create a password-protected personal account before using it. Then your personal info/address will automatically be added to all your interlibrary loan requests thereafter. You will also be able to track your requests throughout the ILL process.

Join us at KYLM for Spring Break Day Camp to Explore Cultures

GlobeOn March 19 – 23 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., campers will use art and artifacts to explore various cultures, including Africa,
Japan, Mexico and Central America. The camp is designed for children first through sixth grade. The cost is $100 per week. Friends of Libraries & Museum receive a 10% discount. Activities include fabric-dyeing, mask making, beading, and weaving.

Jayne Pelaski, Community Outreach Manager at Western Kentucky University Libraries Resigns

Jayne Pelaski, Community Outreach Manager at Western Kentucky University Libraries will be leaving WKU effective May 11, 2007. Jayne has been instrumental in the success of the Southern Kentucky Book Fest and its ancillary programs for more than seven years. Her commitment to encouraging reading and the love of books in our region has been passionate and productive with the Book Fest being named one of the top ten festivals and events in the state this past year by the Kentucky Tourism Council.

”I have enjoyed the past seven years, but want the opportunity to spend more time with my family,” said Mrs. Pelaski when asked why she had elected to leave her position at WKU Libraries.

Have you ever wondered how yarn is made or thought you might want to try? Have you ever wondered where angora or mohair comes from or what silk feels like before it becomes thread or fabric?
