One Book Kicked Off in WKU's Helm LibraryThe Southern Kentucky Book Fest Partnership presents “One Campus-One Community-One Book,” featuring Days of the Endless Corvette by Man Martin.

This community reading project kicking off on today, Thursday, January 24 at

  • Bowling Green Technical College at 11am
  • WKUs Helm Library, Rm 100 at 2pm (photos and video of this event are available)
  • Bowling Green Public Library on State St. at 6pm

Dean’s Office Celebrates Holiday with Breakfast at Cracker Barrel

Libraries Celebrated Holiday and Awarded Faculty, Staff, and Student Assistants

On December 13, WKU Libraries held its annual Holiday party in Cambridge Market restaurant. The celebration featured a game where library employees offered their childhood pictures for their colleagues to tell who they are. Another highlight of the party was the performance by the local band named Buckcreek. The Margie Helm Award was given to its recipients. They are Sean Kinder, Associate Professor of Library Public Service (DLPS), and Lynn Niedermeier, Archives Assistant from Library Special Collection (DLSC). This is the second year student assistants received this award. They include Candace Rogers from the Dean’s Office, Becky Hawkins from DLTS, Ashley Jackson from DLPS, and Sarah Beth Salmon from DLSC.

Celebration of Sheila’s Retirement

Celebration of Sheila's RetirementSheila House, Stacks Supervisor, Department of Library Public Services, Western Kentucky University, has announced her retirement after 27-year service. On December 12, 2007, the Access Unit of the Libraries led by its coordinator Dan Forrest held a party to celebrate her retirement. Dean Binder and Department Head Brian Coutts as well as other library employees came to congratulate her.

Kentucky Library & Museum Hosted Second Annual Christmas in Kentucky Family Event

Christmas in Kentucky Museum and LibraryThe Kentucky Library & Museum hosted its second annual Christmas in Kentucky family event on Saturday, December 1 after the Bowling Green Christmas Parade. This year’s Christmas in Kentucky included a 1950s theme in conjunction with our new Duncan Hines exhibit. Children had their pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. They also visited with Big Red, made ornaments, explored exhibits, and watched the WKU Theater Department perform International Holiday. Christmas in Kentucky was sponsored by Citizens First Bank, Ford’s Furniture, and WKU Libraries.

“International Holiday” Play

globe of the worldThe Kentucky Library & Museum in partnership with the WKU Theatre Department offered school day performances of International Holiday to area school children. Written by Bowling Green native Mary Hall Surface, the 40 minute production explores Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas in Mexico, and New Year’s in Japan traditions. During three performances 770 children and adults attended.
