On August 22 at the Kentucky Building, the WKU Libraries’ Annual Kickoff was held. It started in the 2nd floor of the Kentucky Room with remarks by Mike Binder, Dean of Libraries, about highlights of last year and some things to be looked forward to in 2007-08. A sumptuous buffet luncheon followed in the 1st floor Centennial Room. During the break, the attendees saw the “Recommended by Duncan Hines” exhibit in the gallery area.
In keeping with Provost Burch’s urging the WKU deans to reserve the afternoon of the college kickoff days for faculty development, the UL faculty remained in the Kentucky Building for an afternoon program in the 1st floor Western Room on the “Second Life” phenomenon with focus on library applications. Enid Wohlstein and Betsy Hughes of the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) were the guest speakers. Their program ran from 1 – 4 p.m. with Q & A from 4 – 5 p.m. Here’s a photo album of the events.
On August 20, WKU began its Fall, 2007 semester with a conference named “Engaging the Spirit: Tools for Student Success” in Van Meter Auditorium and Cherry Hall. Library faculty gave their presentations at the conference. Connie Foster and Rose Davis highlighted TopSCHOLAR while Beth Knight, Rosemary Meszaros, Roxanne Spencer, Sean Kinder, and Dan Forrest introduced the various services the WKU Libraries offers to faculty and students. Here’s a photo album of the event.
To have a great start in the new semester, faculty members of WKU Libraries had their annual faculty retreats in different locations. As usual, the faculty of Department of Library Public Services had theirs at Federal Grove on August 21. Mike Binder, Dean of Libraries, came to the retreat to introduce the new Community Outreach Manager Tracy Harkins and answer the faculty’s questions. Available here is a photo album of the event.
On August 17, the annual “New Faculty Orientation” was held in Helm 100. Library faculty members introduced library services and themselves as their liaisons at the orientation. Here’s a photo album of the event.
