Quilt Gallery Walk and Talk

On Friday, June 5, Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society member Becky Leavy led participants in the Bowling Green Gallery Hop and Alumni College events through the 2009 KHQS Annual Quilt Show, “Save the Planet.” The quilts and wall hangings in this feature were made into patterns depicting the seasons, the world (World Without End, Wonder of the World, etc), natural phenomena (Ocean waves, Storms at Sea, etc) with fabric featuring clouds, waves, water, animals, planets, and other nature themes.

  1. was this dedicated to global warming or was it just an excibit are they for sale?

  2. The quilters in this exhibit are members of the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society and were free to interpret the theme of “Save the Planet” however they chose. Some of them probably had a more environmental message behind their quilts but most chose patterns or looked for elements in their quilts that somehow tied into nature and the world around us. Several featured birds as part of the design for example.

    They are not for sale.

  3. Were those made by hand?!

  4. Sandy

Some were made by hand and some by machine and some by a combination of both hand and machine work.

  5. Wow, that’s such a beautiful quilt! My Grandmother makes quilts so I know a lot about them. I’ve heard that some quilts sell for $20,000 (or more) at auction! We have a quilt show every year here at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass, Oregon and the work I get to see is simply amazing!

  6. amazing.. save the planet !! we can do anythink to save our place, and i think this is one of them..

  7. That has to be the most beautiful quilt I’ve ever seen! I have a family member who can make similar ones and she resells them for ridiculous prices. I even visited a show once where they auction these things off, very cool stuff.

  12. Hi Sandy,

Do the people who made these quilts sell them anywhere online where I could go see them? I think I can help them sell more of them, as I have connections with several similar “green” causes.

Please let me know at your first convenience.

    Thanks!

  13. the combination of colors is just wonderful

  14. Hello!

We’d like to find out more about this event at which the quilts were displayed. Is it only for these quilts, or were there perhaps other aspects of green living on display there, such as green lighting? If so, we’d like to see if we can participate at the next event!

Please email us and let us know more about this.

    Thanks!

  26. Hello everybody, This website is high-quality and so is how the issue was developped. I like some of the comments too even though I would rather we don’t err from the main point in order add value to the message. It will be also encouraging to the one who penned it down if we all could share it around (for many of us who use social media such as a digg, twitter,..). Again, Thanks..

  43. An attention-grabbing discussion is price comment. I think that you must write extra on this subject, it won’t be a taboo subject but generally people are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
