Scott Greene, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy & Business Development for Fruit of the Loom, Inc., gave a talk on the evening of Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Bowling Green, KY for the WKU Libraries-sponsored “Kentucky Live!” speaker series. He talked about Fruit of the Loom as one of the nation’s oldest brands.
According to Mr. Greene, Warren Buffet acquired Fruit of the Loom for $835 million as a Berkshire Hathaway Company in 2002, and since then has acquired various brands including Activewear, Jerzees® Activewear, Vanity Fair®, Bestform®, Lily of France, Lou® Paris, Curvation, Spalding, Dudley® Sports, American Athletic, Inc., Bike, and Russell Athletic.

Fruit of the Loom was born in 1851 when brothers Benjamin and Robert Knight bought their first mill and started producing cotton cloth and textiles in Warwick, Rhode Island. Fruit of the Loom is one of the oldest brands as it was registered as an official trademark in 1871.
Warren Buffet acquired Fruit of the Loom for $835 million as a Berkshire Hathaway Company in 2002, and since then has acquired various brands. It now includes: Activewear, Jerzees® Activewear, Vanity Fair®, Bestform®, Lily of France, Lou® Paris, Curvation, Spalding, Dudley® Sports, American Athletic, Inc., Bike, and Russell Athletic.
Russell Athletic is a very well known brand and is the current provider of performance wear for Western Kentucky University’s athletic uniforms. WKU Football introduced their new Russell Athletic uniforms that were worn throughout the 2013 season.
Scott Greene was named Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development for Fruit of the Loom, Inc., in 2014. In his current role, Scott has responsibility for the Company’s strategic planning, consumer & business insights, business process improvement, licensing, and the Digital Center of Excellence.
He spent 6 years on active duty in the Navy as a surface warfare officer, serving on a destroyer in Charleston, South Carolina followed by a tour at Norwich University in Vermont as a Naval ROTC Instructor.
Since joining Fruit of the Loom in 1999, Scott has worked in a variety of leadership and management roles throughout the organization. He is currently serving as Senior Vice President or Corporate Strategy & Business Development.
