Faculty Meeting and a Birthday Party

Faculty from WKU’s Department of Library Public Services had their meeting at the Electronic Resources Center (ERC) in the new Gary A. Ransdell Hall today on March 16, 2011. During the meeting, they threw a brief birthday party for Roxanne Spencer, ERC Coordinator. The meeting was concluded by a tour of ERC given by Roxanne.

US Bank Celebration of the Arts

The US Bank Celebration of the Arts took place on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Kentucky Building on WKU campus. Over 370 art pieces from about 200 artists were on display and awards were given to the winners in the competition.

New ERC in Gary A. Ransdell HallWKU Libraries’ Educational Resources Center (ERC) has moved out of the Tate Page Hall to the newly completed Gary A. Ransdell Hall across the MMTH on State Street. Haiwang Led Honor College Winter Trip to China

Haiwang is telling his students the history of the Tianjin baozi dumplings.Haiwang has just returned from China. From December 29, 2010 to January 20, 2011 he led 11 students from the Honor College Flagship Chinese Pilot Program on a study abroad tour. It was designed as a colloquium titled “Road to Modern China.”  The purpose of this colloquium was to expose the students to Chinese culture and history while reinforcing their Chinese language skills.

The trip started from Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It then moved from Guangzhou to Wuhan, and from Wuhan to Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Beijing.

WKU Libraries Celebrates Holiday and Awards Achievers

WKU Libraries' Holiday Party in Maria's in 2010At noon on December 16, 2010 in Mariah’s Restaurant, Bowling Green, KY, the WKU Libraries celebrated the Holiday and gave annual awards to faculty, staff, students, and a team that excelled in the past year. The Margie Helm Awards are given in memory of Margie Helm, who used to be the Director of WKU’s library services in the 1950s.

This year’s faculty award goes to Christy Spurlock from the Library Special Collections, and the staff award goes to Eric Fisher, Library Facilities Coordinator. The team award goes to the “Far Away Places and Kentucky Live” planning group consisting of Peggy Wright, Brian Coutts, Haiwang Yuan, Bryan Carson, Daniel Peach, and Jason Hatman.

The student awards were given to Cassandra Matthews from the Dean’s Office, Tea Lacic from Library Technical Services, Courtney Hatley from Library Special Collections, and Arthur Petersen from the Library Public Services.

Besides good food, party goers also entertained themselves with intriguing games. The party has been organized by Amy Slowik, Amanda Hardin, Kath Pennavaria, Kathy Fushee, and Brent Fisk.

Celebrate Christmas in Kentucky

Let’s celebrate Christmas in the Kentucky Building on Saturday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There are children’s activies, carloers, ornament making, and picture taking with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This Christmas in Kentucky event is free, so bring your family to the event!

Today: Cravens Library Closes at 5 pm and Reopens at 7 pm

Cravens Library will close at 5:00 pm Thursday, Nov. 4, and reopen at 7:00 pm due to a cellular equipment helicopter airlift to the top of that building.

WKU Student Singer-songwriter Appeared with His Band at Java City

Alec Vinsant and his band at WKU Libraries' Java CityAlec Vinsant, a WKU student singer-songwriter appeared with his band today at Java City to a large appreciative group.  The casual rocking sound featured Vinsant’s originals to old favorites like “Hold My Hand” by Hootie and the Blowfish.
