Author of Joseph Gavi: Young Hero of the Minsk Ghetto Spoke in Helm Library

Carlton Jackson, author of the book Joseph Gavi: Young Hero of the Minsk Ghetto, spoke in room Helm Library 100 on the evening of March 7. Dr. Gavi was personally responsible for saving many Jewish people from death at the hands of the Nazis.

Singer-songwriter Matt Zarb Performed in Java City Tuesday

This Tuesday, March 7th, Australian-born singer-songwriter Matt Zarb performed in Java City. Matt and his music has been described as “Aussie-Bush-Grass,” and his delivery as having the “attitude and the irreverence of a convict.” Matt now lives in Kentucky and has released his first solo album Hillbilly Bride.

US Bank Celebration of the Arts Open Art Exhibition

A PhotoThe opening reception and awards ceremony for the ” U.S. Bank Celebration of the Arts 2006 Open Art Exhibition” took place on March 4 at the Kentucky Library and Museum. All entries are on display at the museum from March 5 – April 9. Artists may sell their work. Photos of winners present at the ceremony are available for download from the web for a limited time.

Bobbie Ann Mason In Bowling Green

Ms. Mason came to Bowling Green to discuss her book with participants of the One Book project. She was in WKU Libraries and Bowling Green Public Library On March 2 and in Barnes & Noble March 3. Professor Katrina Phelps Performed in Java City

Professor Katrina Phelps performs new country outside Java City.This Tuesday, February 28th at 12 noon, Professor Katrina Phelps of the Department of Psychology and The Alive Center performed modern and new country songs outside the WKU Libraries’ Java City. She was accompanied by the local folk band “Shadowdancer.”

Holocaust Exhibit in Helm Library

The Holocaust exhibit took place on campus in three locations: the photojournalism gallery at MMTH, the 2nd floor hallway gallery at FAC, and room 100 of the Helm Library. The exhibit ran through the end of February in MMTH, and through the end of March in the other two locations. In addition, the library had created an audio tour of the exhibit which could be heard via players and headphones.

Jonathan David Eckberg Performed in Java City

Tuesday February 21st, the Libraries were proud to have Jonathan David Eckberg, a native of Walnut, Illinois perform in Java City. Eckberg’s music has been described as “a perfect blend of rock and pop, blues and even a little jazz, acoustic and electric….” Photos of the event are available.

Famous-Barr Used Book Sale Is Another Success

Jayne, Alisia, and Lisa at the Famous-Barr Used Book Sale in the BGPL Depot Branch The annual Famous-Barr Used Book Sale was held from February 10-12 at the Bowling Green Public Library Depot Branch. The proceeds from the used book sale benefit the Southern Kentucky Book Fest.

WKU Libraries’ Kentucky Live! Program Presented Rebecca Ruth Candy Factory

On February 9, 2006, Charles Booe, president of the Frankfort-based Rebecca Ruth Candy Factory gave a talk about the business’ history in Barnes & Noble. This was part of the Kentucky Live! lecture series organized by the WKU Libraries and sponsored by Trace Die Cast.
