Enroll your child, grandchild, or niece or nephew in the KYLM Fall Break Arts Day Camp. The camp is designed for children in grades 1-6. The cost for camp is $100 per week, Monday – Friday 8:00 – 12:00. Library and Museum Associates receive a 15% discount.

Quilt Workshop on September 9
Looking for a project you can do with a grandchild or niece or nephew? Learn how to make a Scotty dog pillow top. The workshop is scheduled for 9:30 to 12:00 on Saturday, September 9 at the Kentucky Library and Museum.

Archeology Camp
Archeology basics where campers learned about prehistoric Kentucky was the theme during Archeology Week. Campers experienced a mock dig, identified prehistoric artifacts, painted on a simulated rock shelter, and made pottery in prehistoric Kentucky style. These were just some of the fun activities campers practiced while studying Kentucky’s past.

Hands on Art Camp
Campers spent five busy days learning hand building clay techniques that included pinch pots, coiling, and slab work with drapes and moulds. The campers also spent a day visiting the WKU ceramic studio where they tried their hands at a pottery wheel. They ended the week eating ice cream sundaes from ceramic bowls made at the ceramic studio.

Paint Like Summer Camp
Led by Alice Gatewood Waddell, campers were introduced to the techniques and styles of five modern artist, Romare Bearden, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol. They experimented with splattering, pouring, and brushing acrylic paint, watercolors, and collage.

The Good Ole Days
Did you ever want to spend a day working as children in 1810 did? What about holding a Victorian tea party, conducting an archeological dig in a sand box or holding a sock hop. Participants at this year’s Camp Kentucky did all of that! Camp Kentucky was led by Eileen Starr and Amy McCray.

Basket Making Exhibit Opened on Saturday
“Baskets from Home: White Oak Baskets of South Central Kentucky” opened on Saturday, April 29 at the Kentucky Library and Museum. This exhibit was partially funded by a grant from Western Kentucky University Provost’s Initiatives for Excellence (PIE) and the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology.

VSA Side By Side Exhibit Reception
The opening reception for *SIDE BY SIDE 2006* – a collaborative exhibition of artwork created by young artists with disabilities and local artists – took place on April 22. The exhibit was a partnership between the Kentucky Library and Museum and VSA Arts of Kentucky. The Kelly Autism Center at Western Kentucky University also participated in this project.

Spring Break Day Campers at Kentucky Library and Museum
Spring break day camp held at the Kentucky Museum on the campus of Western Kentucky University received rave reviews from the campers. Participants enjoyed many art activities from painting designs on a papier-mache rock ledge and portraits of their pets to creating 3-D collages and making booklets using their very own hand marbleized paper.

Basket Making Workshop
Beth Hester of GH Productions in Scottsville, KY conducted a beginner’s basket making workshop at the Kentucky Museum on Saturday, April 1, 2006. Thirteen participants spent the day weaving a Kentucky Berry basket.
