Gourd Artistry

Gourd painting was the focus of a recent workshop at the Kentucky Library & Museum. Over twenty people from age three to retirees participated in the Kentucky Library & Museum Gourd Painting workshop. Participants painted pumpkins and witches as well as other autumn themes.

Celebrating Native American Heritage

children attending Native American Days programFive hundred elementary students participated in Native American days at the Kentucky Library & Museum. Held over a two day period, this event rotated children through four stations where they learned about Native American life and culture from experienced Native American reenactors. Topics included everyday life, culture, weaponry & hunting, and face painting.

Duncan Hines Collection Used in National Web Site

Featuring images from the Duncan Hines Collection, this web site explores the history behind the Duncan Hines brand of food products, which is owned by Pinnacle Foods, a sponsor of the ongoing exhibit, Recommended by Duncan Hines.

Writeup on Dress in Civil War Exhibit

Civil War Dress reproductionThe fall issue of Dress magazine includes a writeup on the reproduction of a Civil War era dress included in the A Star in Each Flag: Conflict in Kentucky exhibit. Made by Dr. Martha Jenkins, a long time museum volunteer and retired faculty member from the Consumer & Family Sciences Department at WKU, the reproduction is based on a circa 1867 dress worn in Paris, Kentucky. Constructed from silk drapery fabric and other materials, this garment required more than 100 hours to research and reproduce.

Footwear Featured in Knitting Magazine

stockingsA pair of brightly colored striped stockings are featured in an article in the Fall 2009 issue of Interweave Knits. Written by Joanne Seiff, the author of several books on knitting and fiber production, the article explores the possibility that this footwear was made by Mrs. James M. Jones of Warren County, KY.

Gourd painting activity for the whole family!

On October 3rd, get ready for fall by painting a pumpkin gourd at the Kentucky Library & Museum! Bring your mom, kids, or grandkids. Special family price for two! All materials are supplied. Workshop facilitated by Lynne Ferguson.

10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Participants do have an option to paint a second gourd during this workshop for an additional $7. This option must be selected during registration.

Hopping Good Time to Enjoy Art

On October 2, participate in the the Bowling Green Gallery Hop, a unique collaboration between the city’s independent galleries, non-profit galleries and studio centers to provide Bowling Green with great artistic opportunities. The galleries, museums and studio centers from around the city open their doors four Friday evenings out of the year so our curious citizens can tantalize their creative senses with great original art.

The “Side by Side: VSA arts of Kentucky” statewide exhibit is the featured exhibit at the stop at the Kentucky Library & Museum.

Statewide Art Show to Open at Kentucky Library & Museum

student art projectOn Sunday, September 13, The Kentucky Library & Museum and VSA arts of Kentucky will open Side By Side 2009 Statewide Exhibition with a reception at 2:00 PM (CDT). This exhibit is composed of pieces selected from VSA arts Side by Side projects from across the state. Participating cities in 2009 include Bowling Green, Lexington, Louisville, Murray, and Somerset.

VSA arts of Kentucky is a statewide, non profit organization dedicated to promoting arts, education and creative expression for all, with an emphasis on persons with disabilities.
