“Political Scandals in Kentucky”

Kentucky Live! presented Dr. James C. Klotter on “Political Scandals in Kentucky” on the evening of November 9 in Barnes & Noble.

James Klotter is the author, coauthor or editor of seventeen books. Notable among these include: Kentucky Justice, Southern Honor and American Manhood, A New History of Kentucky, and Kentucky: Portrait in Paradox, 1900-1950. The Kentucky Live! lecture series are sponsored by The Friends of the WKU Libraries & Museum.

Dewayne Was Surprised with a Birthday Party

the happily surprised Dewayne StovallDewayne Stovall, Government Information & Law Specialist, was deeply touched when his colleagues threw a surprise party to celebrate his 50th birthday in the Libraries’ Government Document & Law Collection Unit. Books & Basket Event in Diddle Arena

Books and BasketThe Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners collected donated books at Diddle Arena on the evening of Tuesday, November 7. Those who donated books got free tickets for the women’s basketball game that night. Books collected will be given to local schools or sold at the coming Macy’s Used Book Sale. Procedes from the sale will benefit the Book Fest events.

Halloween Party at University Libraries

Halloween PartyOn Novermber 1, 2006, faculty, staff, and student assistants of WKU Libraries gathered in Cravens 111 to celebrate Halloween. Besides good food brought by the faculty and staff members, there were also prizes given to the best costumes and lucky winners. Archeology Camp

campers paint a mock rock shelterArcheology basics where campers learned about prehistoric Kentucky was the theme during Archeology Week. Campers experienced a mock dig, identified prehistoric artifacts, painted on a simulated rock shelter, and made pottery in prehistoric Kentucky style. These were just some of the fun activities campers practiced while studying Kentucky’s past.

SOKY Bookfest Partners Kicked off 1Read

Kung FuOn the evening of October 19, the Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners kicked off the first 1Read event at the Bowling Green Public Libraries. Present was Pamela Walker, author of the book Kung Fu Princess. She signed her books at the end of the event.

1Read is a partnership project of Western Kentucky University Libraries, Bowling Green Public Library, Barnes and Noble Booksellers and WKYU to encourage teens to read. The adults’ and children’s versions of book reading events are One Book-One Campus-One Community and On the Same Page respectively.

Faraway Places Series Featured Dr. David Keeling

Turkey

University Libraries featured Dr. David Keeling, Head of WKU Geography and Geology Department, talked about Turkey at Barnes & Noble on the evening of October 19 in its monthly Faraway Places international talk series. Dr. Keeling talked about the geopolitics of this only Muslim democracy in the world to fifty WKU faculty and students as well as community members of Bowling Green.
