Retirement Reception for Linda Davis
On May 29, 2008, the Department of Library Technical Services said farewell to longtime cataloger Linda Davis. Linda retired from WKU with 27 years of service and her expertise and contagious laugh will be missed by all. During her reception Linda was presented with several mementos including a lovely rocking chair where she can sit and enjoy her life of leisure. We wish Linda a long and happy retirement.

Do you or your parents or grandparents remember the “olden days”fondly? Relive our shared heritage by viewing images of the people and places in Bowling Green and Warren County, including parades around Fountain Square Park, sports groups, horse-drawn sleighs, and individual portraits. Several photographs portray river scenes, such as a rare one showing people swimming in the Barren River at the foot of State Street. Images of Beech Bend Park and various historical properties are included. “Warren County Sights and Sounds” opens May 31 at the Kentucky Library & Museum.

Quilting with an International Flavor
The KHQS Annual Show has an international flavor in 2008. The quilts and wall hangings included in it will be made in an international style (Hawaiian, Japanese, African), constructed from a worldly pattern (Irish Chain, Dresden Plate, LeMoyne Star, Greek Cross, Mariner’s Compass, reflect a geographic location that lies closer to home- Carolina Lily, Baltimore Album, Kentucky Star) or be made in a worldwide theme. Around the World opens at the Kentucky Library & Museum on May 23 and runs through June 8.

Kentucky Library & Museum Wins National Award
On April 25, 2008, the Kentucky Library & Museum was one of five Kentucky organizations to receive the Award for Outstanding Community Partner for its work with the VSA arts of Kentucky program, SIDE BY SIDE. A visual arts program for children with disabilities, SIDE BY SIDE provides mentoring collaboration with professional adult artists from the local community. At the end of the teaching session, each student artist is paired with a local artist in a one on one session where they create a collaborative work of art. The program concludes with a public exhibition of an individual student work, the collaborative piece and a piece by each professional artist, all presented SIDE BY SIDE.
