Yesterday marked the 86th anniversary of the Scopes Trial which began on the morning of Friday, July 10, 1925 in Dayton, Tennessee at the Rhea County Courthouse. Four months earlier, John Washington Butler’s “Anti-Evolution bill” had became law. It made it unlawful for any teacher in any of the universities, normals, and all other public schools in the State, to teach any theory that denied the story of the divine creation of man as taught in the Bible.
