2006 Faculty Awards Nominees

Nominees for 2006 Faculty Awards with Dean Binder Dean Binder with Nancy Baird and Sue Lynn McDaniel. Nominated by University Libraries and Information Technology for the 2006 Faculty Awards, Nancy and Sue Lynn were recognized for their efforts in Research/Creative Activity and Public Service. Chief among their accomplishments was their co-authorship of Western Kentucky University: The First 100 Years and numerous public programs promoting the WKU centennial.

Spring Break Day Camps at Kentucky Library and Museum

Big Red with Centennial Exhibit in Frankfort

Big Red with Centennial exhibit in FrankfortOn January 18, a traveling version of “Western 100” was displayed at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort as part of the 100th anniversary of the signing of legislation that established normal schools in eastern and western Kentucky.

Music at Java City at noon on Wednesday, March 1st

At noon on March 1, WKU graduate students and professional musicians “Burns and Ross” came to perform at the Libraries’ Java City. They were a traditional music duet featuring mountain and hammered dulcimers.

Steff Mahan Performed on Feburary 16th

Steff Mahan performs in Western Kentucky University's Helm Library and Java CityThis Thursday, February 16th at noon in University Library’s Java City, the University Libraries were proud to present the sweet and soulful sound of alt-country’s Steff Mahan. Music in Java City

Out of popular demand, Atlanta native and Nashville Recording Artist, Sarah Peacock was welcome back to perform in Java City and Helm Library last Friday, February 10. Ms. Peacock’s music has been described as “not like the rest. Heart and guts fuel the fervor for her mission.” Joining Ms. Peacock was Nashville’s own Beau Bristow called “an acoustic prophet.”

Frank X Walker Spoke on WKU Campus

Frank X Walker at Glasgow, KentuckyWestern Kentucky University Libraries, Bowling Green Public Library, and the Kentucky Humanities Council proudly sponsored the celebration of the written word featuring Frank X Walker.

Frank X Walker is a founding member of the Affrilachian Poets. His most recent poetry collections are Black Box and Buffalo Dance, the Journey of York. Frank X won the 2004 Lillian Smith Book Award and is the recipient of a 2005 Lannan Literary Fellowship.

From February 2 through 3, Mr. Walker spoke at Western Kentucky University’s Glasgow Campus, at the Bowling Green Public Library and in the new Leisure Reading Room on the first floor of Helm Library. He signed his books at each of the events.
