Far Away Places Presents John All

On the evening of March 17 at Barnes & Noble, the WKU Libraries’ “Far Away Places” international talk series featured Professor John All from WKU’s Department of Geography & Geology. While studying climate change in the Himalayas in 2010 as part of the Fulbright Scholar program, he scaled the treacherous northeast ridge and reached the summit of Mount Everest, at 29,035 ft. the world’s highest mountain on May 23rd.

This month’s speaker in the libraries Far Away Places series is Professor John All from WKU’s Department of Geography & Geology. John received his PhD in 2002 from the University of Arizona where his research focused on the international utilization of shared water resources in the Colorado River delta. He has a JD in international law and a Master’s Certificate in Environmental Ethics. His articles on “Adaptation to Climate Change,” “Global Environmental Change,” and “Symptoms and Effects of Climate Change” appear in award winning Encyclopedia of Geography published by SAGE in 2010. His research has examined the impact of climate change on natural resources and ecosystems in the Colorado River delta of Mexico, in Chile and in Bhutan. He’s also an avid photographer and alpinist. While studying climate change in the Himalayas in 2010 as part of the Fulbright Scholar program he scaled the treacherous northeast ridge and reached the summit of Mount Everest, at 29,035 ft. the world’s highest mountain on May 23rd. His new goal, he says, is to scale the highest point on each continent.
