Dr. Jerry W. Passon, who teaches English and technical writing at Hopkinsville Community College, gave a talk on corvette in literature and culture as an American symbol at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Bowling Green, KY on the evening of November 10, 2011. The event was the last of the “Kentucky Live! Southern Culture at Its Best” talks series organized by the WKU Libraries.

The Corvette in Literature and Culture
Jerry W. Passon, who teaches English and technical writing at Hopkinsville Community College, will be the featured speaker in this month’s Kentucky Live! Southern Culture At Its Best this Thursday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 1680 Campbell Lane. Passon is a native of Clarksville, TN where his mother’s family has lived for several generations.
He’s a graduate of Austin Peay and the University of Missouri and recently received his PhD from Southern Illinois University. The Corvette in Literature and Culture: Symbolic Dimensions of America’s Sports Car, his first book was published by McFarland in 2011. In it he argues that the Corvette is more than just a desirable sports car but a potent American symbol. His interest in the Corvette dates from a childhood interest in automobiles and he continues to enjoy watching motor sports.
